Program Overview
The JVS Employment Source offices, provide a range of employment services (information and referral, one-on-one employment counselling, employment workshops, job development/placement services) to unemployed individuals of all ages, professional backgrounds and skills to help them gain employment within their field or a related field. 

JVS Toronto’s skilled trades services aims to empower Skilled Trades individuals by providing them with wrap-around services to prepare them for the labour market. We will support them every step of the way as they gain the Red Seal or Certificate of Qualifications they need to start working in Ontario.

The individual in this position will provide direct client services in the areas of needs assessment, employment preparation, referral to community resources and support services, case management; and performs related duties as required. This position will support Employment Ontario and Skilled Trades services in our Finch & Keele and Markham locations. 

We’re looking for a proactive and self-motivated individual who will:
•    Conduct client needs assessment and maintain complete client case files in compliance with the new Employment Ontario model requirements; monitor clients’ progress with ongoing follow-up and support each client’s retention goals. Offer personalized employment counselling and program referrals both in-person and online.
•    Conduct client interviews to gather employment history, educational background, career aspirations, etc., utilizing the Employment Intake Assessment tool
•    Provide guidance on skilled trades licensing/certification requirements, career exploration, micro-credential opportunities, and other pre-employment necessities
•    Assist clients with training opportunities to enhance job search skills and strategies
•    Evaluate the need for additional support such as financial aid or further vocational training/skills enhancement and refer accordingly
•    Collaborate with job development services, accrediting bodies, professional associations, government departments, and community agencies to facilitate clients’ progress
•    Organize and facilitate on/off-site and virtual events, including employer sessions and informational sessions.
•    Implement workplace exposure initiatives targeting individuals in need of job opportunities.
•    Arrange industry-specific site visits for participants to gain firsthand insight into various job roles.
•    Offer comprehensive labour market insights to clients
•    Provide ongoing support and monitoring at predefined intervals as clients advance through the TEA process
•    Maintain detailed case notes and relevant documentation to track clients’ progress accurately
•    Other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of employment counselling experience
•    Demonstrated outcome-focused case management ability; applying knowledge of current local labour market trends and community services in Toronto and York Region
•    Experience working, training or coaching adults in a technical trade is an asset
•    Able to work independently, seek out new information, engage in self-directed learning and make the connections necessary to effectively support program participants
•    Experience working with newcomers to Canada and a strong understanding of barriers to social and economic participation
•    Demonstrated ability to work in coordination and collaboration with community partners and other service providers
•    Strong understanding of anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
•    Demonstrated problem-solving skills
•    Computer literate; the ability to quickly learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
•    A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position

Our ideal candidate will also have:
•    Demonstrated foundational knowledge of skilled trades occupations and the trades equivalency assessment process
•    Fluency in Arabic or Ukrainian is an asset.
