Program Overview
The Newcomer Youth Initiatives, supported by IRCC, United Way, and UJA, provide career exploration, mentorship, and a supportive network while fostering community engagement. These initiatives offer a mix of individual and group activities, including skill-building workshops, mentorship, and social engagement, to support youth facing various personal and systemic challenges. Youth Reach specifically serves those who have experienced or are vulnerable to conflict with the law, helping them develop workplace skills and improve their long-term employability. By collaborating with local partners, JVS Toronto ensures participants have access to positive role models and opportunities that enhance their personal growth and future success.
We’re looking for someone who will:
• Provide leadership to JVS youth projects, including NYCS, Youth Entrepreneurship (YEP), and Youth Reach Project, ensuring project goals are met. Establish and strengthen relationships with clients, employers, community agencies, and stakeholders.
• Oversee daily operations, identify best practices, develop innovative solutions, and collaborate with on-site programs, management, and staff to enhance client services.
• Manage funder relationships, including deliverables and financial oversight. Administer budgets and submit quarterly and annual reports.
• Ensure projects’ efficiency, track key deliverables, and maintain compliance with funding agreements while demonstrating projects impact.
• Strengthen partnerships with Bathurst/Finch Hub, York Region community partners, and ethno-specific organizations to enhance collaboration and volunteer opportunities for participants.
• Work closely with the JVS Management Team to contribute to organization-wide projects and initiatives.
• Promote JVS youth projects among service providers and community stakeholders, representing JVS Toronto in external engagements.
Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counselling experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
• 3-5 years of management experience
• Expertise in community development, mentoring, employment, settlement, and outreach
• Demonstrated understanding of the specific needs of newcomer youth and knowledge of the ethnic communities of the respective neighbourhoods
• Skilled in leading staff teams, evaluation, financial management, and service coordination
• Effective written and verbal communication and report writing skills for internal and external communications
• Demonstrated strength in motivating, coaching, problem solving, and decision making
• Proven ability to implement and meet performance management standards
• Effective organizational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, works well without supervision within a team environment and can work with multiple levels of management; culturally sensitive
• Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
• A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
